Boston Pizza : West Broadway location

Boston Pizza is one of my favourite chain restaurants and I only come here for the cactus cut potatoes, wings, and pizza. I love BPs twice baked wings because most of the time they are juicy and flavourful! Honestly, BP is my favourite place for wings.

Like every BP location, the restaurant is large and spacious. There is a bar/lounge area along with the dining room and plenty of large television screens. We arrived after midnight so the restaurant was not busy, but our waitress was friendly and attentive. At most BP locations, the service is non existent whenever the restaurant is slow.

BAKED FRENCH ONION SOUP, "A rich broth made with sherry and a blend of sweet yellow and white onions, topped with a toasted crouton, pizza mozzarella, cheddar, feta and parmesan, then baked until golden" ($6.49).
The soup tastes flavourful and the onions are nicely caramelized, resulting in a tender and rich flavour. There are also three types of cheese and the soup does not taste salty.

CACTUS CUT POTATOES, "Spicy and thinly sliced fried potatoes served with our mouth watering cactus dip - a rich blend of crushed chillies, green onions, sour cream, garlic and parmesan" ($9.99).
Rating: 2/5.
Most of the potatoes are flaccid, which really defeats the purpose of ordering them. There are a couple of slightly crisp ones on the top though. As for the dip, there is a hint of spiciness and always tastes great.

TROPICAL CHICKEN, LARGE "Our signature Alfredo sauce, pizza mozzarella, cheddar, smoky bacon, spicy chicken breast and pineapple" ($29.99).
Rating: 3.5/5
The pizzas at BP are considered pricey, but there are a few I enjoy. After our waitress dropped off the pizza, she asked if we wanted some parmesan cheese. As she was grating the cheese, I like how she stopped half way through and confirmed if we wanted parmesan on the whole pizza. I am big on little things and appreciate her asking. This is actually the first time anyone has ever asked if I wanted cheese on the whole pizza, which is great for those who do not.

The pizza has a crisp and soft chewy crust along with a nice browning on the bottom (which did not get soggy!). As for the ingredients, there is a light creamy Alfredo sauce and some sweetness from the pineapples. In addition, the chicken tastes moist and the flavour from the bacon is there. The tropical chicken pizza is one of my favourites, mostly because of the simple ingredients lol.

OVEN-ROASTED WINGS, SALT N' PEPPER AND HOT ($19.79).
Rating: 2/5
Unfortunately the cook forgot to set the timer for the wings, did not even bother using one, or was not sure how to use it properly because the wings taste dry. The wings also lack a nice crisp exterior. However, the seasonings are on point. The salt n' pepper wings have a great seasoning without one flavour overwhelming the other, and the hot wings have a medium spiciness along with a hint of vinegar. I was upset about the dryness though. Like… really actually sad and disappointed lol.

APPLE CRISP, "Slices of Granny Smith apple in a butter sauce, baked with a delicious brown sugar and oat crumble and topped with caramel sauce. Served with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream" ($6.99).
Rating: 3/5.
Well, I guess could not stay mad at the cook regarding the dry wings… because the apple crisp is well executed. I used to order this all the time, but stopped because so many BP locations kept messing up the dessert! The crumb would taste soft, wet, mushy, and just disgusting, so I was hesitant on ordering the apple crisp again. Fortunately though, the crumble tastes crisp and not even slightly damp. Furthermore, the chunks of apple are not too thin and have a soft crunch without tasting overly sweet. The vanilla ice cream also balances some of the sweetness.

A couple of dishes overall could have been better, especially because chain restaurants are supposed to be consistent. As for the service, our waitress was attentive, friendly and professional. The West Broadway location is one of the better BPs service wise, and even the manager checked in on us.

POSITIVES
- Open late night
- Spacious restaurant
- Attentive and friendly staff

NEGATIVES
- Limp potatoes and dry wings
- A timer should always be properly used at a chain restaurant

Food: 2.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
