Kamei Royale

Kamei Royale is one of BFs favourite Japanese restaurants, but I find it average (I prefer Ebisu on West Broadway). The restaurant is known for their cherry blossom and heart shaped rolls.

SASHIMI VANCOUVER, ASSORTED TEMPURA, LOBSTER SEAFOOD AND MISO SOUP, RAINBOW ROLL, CHERRY BLOSSOM ROLL AND ASSORTED OYSTERS.

6 PIECES OF ASSORTED OYSTERS, 2 KUSSI, 2 ROYAL MIYAGI AND 2 KUMAMOTO ($12.95). The oysters taste fresh, properly rinsed and tasty.

LOBSTER AND SEAFOOD MISO SOUP ($7.95/bowl). The miso soup tastes flavourful and the lobster option is nice, since most Japanese restaurants only have asari miso soup. The lobster tastes tender and bouncy, but the salmon tastes overcooked and hard. BFs bowl was more hot compared to mine, mine was more luke warm.

SASHIMI VANCOUVER, 3 SALMON, 3 TUNA, 2 TORO AND 2 HAMACHI ($19.95). All the sashimi tastes fresh but the toro was a bit frozen still.

ASSORTED TEMPURA, 3 PRAWNS, 1 ASPARAGUS, 1 EGGPLANT, 1 YAM AND 1 POTATO ($13.50). The batter tastes light but could have been more flaky. Neither of us was in the mood for tempura but if we ordered the deluxe or seafood, we probably would have enjoyed it more. The tempura tastes average, not greasy, and light.

RAINBOW ROLL ($15.50). I am not adventurous when it comes to eating rolls, I do not want any with asparagus, unagi, or spicy salmon and tuna. The california roll is topped with avocado, sashimi, and black dyed tobiko. The sashimi tastes fresh and the avocados are ripe and green.

CHERRY BLOSSOM ROLL ($15.50). The only reason to visit Kamei should be for the mao or cherry blossom roll! I am a sucker for cute food but hate tuna, so I found this hard to eat. The cherry blossom roll is pretty much avocado and tuna wrapped with tuna, made into a cherry blossom with seaweed and tobiko in the centre.
